Laser Hair Removal

Frequently Asked Questions about laser hair removal

Laser hair removal provides you with soft, silky skin without the hassle of needing to shave or wax.  No more ingrown hairs or bumps!  Laser Hair removal reduces up to 98% of the body hair in the treated areas.  Treatment results are individual and laser hair removal can be less effective on certain hair colors.  Typically red, grey and white hairs are not responsive to laser hair technology.

Not all hair removal devices are the same - some machines are more painful than others, require more treatments for success and some devices can only treat certain colors of skin. We use the newest and best type of device - our FDA approved Diode Laser is able to treat all skin types (Fitzpatrick I-VI) and tanned skin.  Our Diode Laser is less painful and provides results in less treatments than other laser technology.

Our diode laser technology is virtually painless and sure beats the pain of waxing!  Most everyone tolerates laser hair removal well.

There are many factors that influence the number of treatments needed.  Laser hair removal works well on larger, thicker hairs found in the armpit and pubic areas.  These areas typically require about 4-6 treatments, spaced at least one month apart,  for removal. Typically 15-30% hair reduction is achieved with each individual treatment. Most legs require 6 treatments. Face, cheeks and upper lips in women often require more treatments to achieve the desired result.  Treatment effectiveness is reduced by:

  • Recent waxing or plucking.  For best results you should not wax or pluck for at least 10 days before the procedure, ideally for 6 weeks prior.  Shaving and chemical hair removal creams are ok even on the day of the treatment.
  • Electrolysis done within 10 days of treatment may decrease the effectiveness of treatment.

Our laser hair removal technology can treat any body area whether you are male or female. The most popular areas for treatment in women include the upper lip, underarms, bikini area and legs.  Popular areas for men include the back of the neck, the back, the chest, the abdomen and below the belt.

Quadra Health & MedSpa will not treat you if you are under 18, pregnant, have epilepsy, have cancer or are using any medications that cause photosensitivity.  Laser hair removal also cannot be performed over any areas that have tattoos or permanent makeup.

Hypopigmentation or lightening of the skin in the area treated is possible.  Alternatively, some skin types can experience hyperpigmentation or darkening at the site of the hair follicles.  If you are concerned about your individual response we can treat a test area of your skin to evaluate the response.  The following are things that can increase the risk of complications from laser hair removal:

  • Recent tanning or excess sun exposure at the treatment area.  We suggest that you avoid tanning for 14 days prior to getting laser hair removal.  You should wear sunscreen or cover the area to be treated to reduce sun exposure.
  • Accutane (isotretinoin) should not be used in the area to be treated for at least 3 months prior to treatment.
  • Patients with Lupus, porphyria or those with conditions resulting in light sensitivity are prone to complications from laser hair removal.
  • Areas affected by herpes simplex infections (oral, genital, anal, etc.) can experience complications from treatment.

We encourage you to come in for a free consultation.  Everyone is different but we strive to keep our costs low and provide you with the most effective results in the shortest time possible.  We have convenient laser hair removal packages that start as low as $50/month.
